Reservations Made!

Oui oui! So we are definitely goiiiinng. Although technically we could cancel the whole trip 48 hours in advance and not owe anyone anything, but that would be a really stupid idea : )

Recap:
Klamath hostel: Arrive Tuesday, August 22, depart Friday, August 25
Marin hostel: Arrive Friday, August 25, depart Saturday, August 26
Fisherman's Wharf in SFO hostel: Arrive Saturday, August 26, depart Sunday August 27

Just a heads up, total lodging costs will be $108 per person, which you can either pay by credit card, cash, or travelers checks (I don't think the hostels like personal checks, or at least Klamath doesn't). Other expenses will be gas and food (we need to bring all of our food for the first four nights, we can buy our bring while in the city...

More details later...

annie: sweeeeet!! do we really have to bring all our food with us? couldn't we take a small trip one day to get food during our 3 days in klamath? it might be nice to get back in the car and explore the surrounding town a little bit, and besides that's a lot of food to worry about keeping cold on the 7 hour drive up. and would take up a lot of space. but whatever, minor concern ;) (<--you like that, becky??)

aluma: ok, so when exactly am I coming up? and with who's car? (I don't think that I could take my parents...) And how much should I pay (since I'm not going to go to on the first day?). I could probably drive up on friday (depending how far away the marin hotel is from Palo Alto) :-)

outrage and indignation

Elissa: No strong opinions on lodging...just OUTRAGE & INDIGNATION!
What do you mean "Emily and Becky are undecided"??!?!?!?!?!
BECKY AND EMILY ARE COMING.

Aluma: I am in complete agreement. If you guys are coming a bit later, you can come up with me. but you will be coming!!

Sue's choices

Oh hahaha right.

Sounds good to me!!!!!!!!

Reservations...

So, I think we've all had more than enough time to mull over our choices. I am in favor of staying at the Sausalito hostel because we'll get our fill of coast environments at Klamath and driving up there, and Mount Tam will be a nice change of pace. Fisherman's Wharf is good for me for San Francisco.

Also, those of us that know we're going should make reservations soonish. I can put them under my name/credit card if y'all want. As far as I know, Chelsea, Sue, Annie, and Elissa are going on the whole trip, Aluma is coming for the last two nights, and Becky and Emily are undecided. Let me know if this is correct so that I can go ahead and make the reservations... And oh yeah, first we have to decide about Sausalito vs. Point Reyes. Elissa and Aluma, do you have a strong opinions? And I guess Fisherman's wharf is already in the majority.

Peace Out,
Chelsea

Photographs of the Entire California Coast!

I just got an email about this l five minutes ago and since it is so relavent to our trip, here it is:

DOUBLE TRIPLE EEEEK!!!!!!!!!!!

oh my GOD. I am so so SO excited. Like you don't understand. HOLY CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So hopefully everybody's down for ultra nor-cal...because you KNOW I am. As for specific hostels, I kinda like Pt. Reyes just a bit better because it's 1. a wee bit cheaper 2. more in between Redwood and SF so the driving is more spaced out, not that it really matters because it and Sausalito are both close enough to SF. As for San Francisco, I like the look of the Fisherman's Wharf one the most from the pictures. The nice thing about SF is that it's so easy to get from one place to another because it ACTUALLY HAS A WORKING TRANSIT SYSTEM. HARUMPH. OOOOOH We could even grab lunch in Berkeley at Cafe Intermezzo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And go hit up all four Crossroads in SF!!! A vintage shopping marathon!!!!!!!!!!! Who's with me???!!!

Final decision?

Ok, judging from everyone's comments, I think the best trip would be leaving Tuesday, August 22 and returning Sunday, August 27:
• First three nights (TUES, WED, THUR) at the Klamath hostel. Cost is $20/person/night and as of a few days ago they had rooms available. The lady also said she was going to mail me more information about the hostel and the surrounding area so we can check and make sure it still sounds good when I get that.

• Drive south on FRIDAY and meet Aluma. Spend the night at either the Point Reyes or the Sausalito Hostel. WE NEED TO DECIDE WHICH ONE OF THESE WE WANT TO GO TO. Basic info is below. I also recommend that you check out the CA hostels link to learn more...
Point Reyes: beds available, $16/ night, 10 beds per dorm room
Sausalito/ Marin Headlines: beds available, $18/ night, 8 beds per dorm room

• Drive to San Francisco on SATURDAY and spend the night at one of the hostels there. Again, WE NEED TO DECIDE WHICH ONE OF THESE HOSTELS WE WANT TO STAY AT... so got to the website...
City Center: beds available, $28/night, each room has 4 beds
Downtown: $26/night, each room has 4 beds
Fisherman's Wharf: $28/night, 6-12 or 24 beds per room

So the whole thing should be SWEET! I am excited! Nature and cities and cooking good food for those who like to cook and eating that good food for those who like to eat and general merriment to be had by all. And people whose families might be going away then... tell them to not go away!

Love and peace,
Che...

ooh la la (elissa speaks)

Ooh, everything sounds really awesome. I vote for 3A, too, just because I love hostels and that part of the state (and I've already been to Death Valley, and I don't care too much about needing to be near a city). Honestly, though, I don't have any vehement oppositions, though...so if others are more opinionated, they can direct the flow of investigation. I know that it will be awesome no matter what. I'm excited!

lum-aw guys, this looks really good! I'm so glad I'll be able to meet you guys there. I wouldn't mind spending only 2 nights (since chelsea had a good point that that way you guys could spend more time away from PA)

I vote for 3A.

CH: I edited my last post a bit since Sue posted this.

Re: Che's last post

Wait, for the dates, Lumy said she'd be gone from Aug. 8 to Aug. 20, so she wont' be able to make it from Aug. 16 to Aug. 20. Do you leave, Che, on the 28th or does school start on the 28th and you're actually leaving earlier?

CH: Ooops. Sorry about that. Wrote something different that what I was thinking. Fixed the dates, which are now August 22 to August 27. Classes start Tuesday the 29th, so I need to be back by Sunday (27th) so that I can drive up Monday (28th). Though actually I need to check with my padres about that to see if that will even work, come to think of it.

Driving

**I think fufes forgot to publish this so I'm going to go ahead and do so. And I second her comment that long drives really aren't bad except for the fact that they involve lots of gas. -CH **

Personally, I like the ultra norcal and the death valley option the most. Between the two, I'm not really sure. For me, a long drive isn't necessarily a terrible thing, cuz it just means more chilltime with the gang! But yeah, I like hostels for sleeping definitely. I think August 20 will work for me, but I'll know more when I find out about internships and whatnot. OK PEACE.
